The Casals Quartet, an identity and present of international chamber music, has established itself as one of the leading string quartets, after almost 30 years of history.
Founded in 1997 at the Reina Sofía School in Madrid, the Casals Quartet is present every season in the most prestigious programs in the world: Carnegie Hall in New York, Philharmonie and Boulez Saal in Berlin, Konzerthaus and Musikverein in Vienna, Salzburg Festival, Wigmore Hall in London, Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Philharmonie in Paris or Suntory Hall in Tokyo.
This third and final album from the impressive full ensemble of the Casals Quartet immerses us in the twilight world of Shostakovich's last three quartets. Emblematic works from the years 1970-74, poignantly marked by the signs of his illness and a profound awareness of impending death, strike us with their condensed formal audacity and raw emotion.
