The Casals Quartet, an identity and present of international chamber music, has established itself as one of the leading string quartets, after almost 30 years of history.
Founded in 1997 at the Reina Sofía School in Madrid, the Casals Quartet is present every season in the most prestigious programs in the world: Carnegie Hall in New York, Philharmonie and Boulez Saal in Berlin, Konzerthaus and Musikverein in Vienna, Salzburg Festival, Wigmore Hall in London, Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Philharmonie in Paris or Suntory Hall in Tokyo.
His firm commitment to the essence of each score is reflected in some twenty albums for the harmonia mundi label (including works by Bach, Haydn, Mozart, Schubert, Brahms or the complete Beethoven works), as well as in his historically informed performances with bows from the Baroque and Classical periods – from the Borletti Buitoni Collection in London – which coexist with premieres and collaborations with composers of our time, from György Kurtág to Francisco Coll.
During 2025-2026, they will tackle the complete Shostakovich quartets, a project they have undertaken both in the recording studio and in full performance in Madrid and Valencia. The season is rounded out with works by major composers of the Classical and Romantic periods, as well as tours of North America and their return to major venues in London, Berlin, Paris, Barcelona, Vienna, Stockholm, and Amsterdam, among others.
Alongside its concert activity, the Quartet is deeply involved in pedagogy, undertaking residencies at the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole, the Escola Superior de Musica de Catalunya, and the Royal Conservatory of The Hague. It has been awarded the Spanish National Music Prize, the Queen Sofía School of Music Medal of Honor, the National Culture Prize of Catalonia, and the City of Barcelona Prize, in addition to serving as a cultural ambassador for the Government of Catalonia and the Ramon Llull Institute.
